Between March 3, 2000 and June 6, 2003, Geshe Michael Roach and several of his senior students engaged in a three-year silent meditation retreat in the desert wilderness of southeastern Arizona.  During that time, Geshe Michael didn’t see anyone apart from the six retreatants; didn’t get any news from the outside world; and didn’t even hear the sound of a human voice.

However, in order to fulfill a promise he had made to his students before he left, Michael came blindfolded to the edge of the retreat boundary twice a year to teach; and students came from Australia, Ireland, England, Germany, Mongolia, Singapore, and throughout the United States, to listen to these teachings.
