Poetry:
Recitations for the Tantric College

by Lobsang Chukyi Gyeltsen, His Holiness the First Panchen Lama
Translated by Geshe Michael Roach
Edited by John Stillwell

This selection of poetry comes from the classic work on the lives of the masters of the lam rim lineage: Biographies of the Lamas of the Teachings on the Steps of the Path to Enlightenment, written by Yongdzin Yeshe Gyeltsen, Tsechok Ling, Tutor to His Holiness the Eighth Dalai Lama. They were written throughout Lobsang Chukyi Gyseltsen’s long life starting from the age of 14, and they convey the inner progress of the First Panchen Lama in developing the steps of the path to enlightenment. They also illustrate the manner in which he conducted his life and practice in the external world. In that sense, these poems are a real example for us to follow, and this selection was chosen to relate to particular lam rims, or steps of the path, that we ourselves are working on.

Most of the poems here are translated for the first time into English by Geshe Michael Roach and edited by John Stilwell in direct connection with the teaching of Geshe Michael Roach on De Lam: The Path to Bliss, by Lobsang Chukyi Gyeltsen, given at Diamond Mountain University in 2004 and 2005.
